The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) will give you a taste of what university life is like whilst in Sixth Form. You will learn to take charge of the direction of an academic project and you will be taught how to carry out large scale research which will result in an essay or artefact (such as a piece of music), with support from your supervisor.

The course involves completing an online programme of study skills such as time management, decision making, academic research, critical thinking and essay writing. To achieve the qualification, you will analyse and evaluate your research and complete either an artefact or an essay of 5,000 words. With both options you will document your progress through a Production Log. At the end of the course you will make an oral presentation of your conclusions and discuss the process.

The topic you choose to research can be ANYTHING you want, within reason! Think about your interests and passions. You could opt to explore contemporary issues such as Climate Change, Human Rights or Animal Welfare. The EPQ will provide you with the exciting chance to expand your understanding of a subject matter and could inform your future plans. You may choose something linked to your future degree choice or career path.

The benefits of choosing an EPQ:
• The EPQ allows you to develop your knowledge in a topic you care about.
• The skills you will develop as a result of doing the EPQ are invaluable in most jobs and university courses.
• It is highly valued by many universities as it provides an excellent preparation for life beyond A Levels.

The EPQ is the equivalent to an AS Level and an A* will gain 28 UCAS Points.
