Dear Parents and Carers,

There was a lovely atmosphere in school on the Friday before half-term; as year 11 celebrated their last day together as a year group, and what a great year group they have been.  Their absence has been noticeable since we returned from the break and we are certainly missing them. I would like to mention how proud we are particularly of their conduct over the last couple of months. They have worked with us as a school and they were complimented on their exemplary conduct in the internal tests by invigilators and their teachers. I hope they are enjoying their new routine and we look forward to seeing them soon for a range of different reasons.

Leavers’ Hoodies and Photographs

Both are now ready for collection. If they were unable to collect them on the 10th June, as outlined in a message from Mrs Cozens, they can be collected from reception when convenient. Any queries, please contact Mrs Cozens

Old School Uniform Collection

We would be grateful for any donations of clean school uniform you may now no longer need. There is a collection box in reception.

Awarding of GCSE Grades 2021

We wrote to you back in March with regards the process for how grades are being awarded this year. We have received confirmation from JCQ that our Centre Policy for awarding grades has been approved. Both the policy and the previous letter sent out can be found in the exams section of our website

We have undertaken a rigorous moderation process of the evidence internally as well as across our Trust Schools. Grades are now being uploaded to the exam boards, who will then carry out their own moderation of the grades before the final grades are awarded.

Students have been informed by their teachers of the range of evidence each subject will be using to make their holistic judgement. This has been summarised into a table and can be found on the website page via the link above. This is not an exhaustive list, as where a piece of evidence is missing, teachers have looked for alternative evidence that can be used.

Results Day

The official results day for GCSE students is Thursday 12th August. Results will be available to collect in the morning from 9.30am in the Sixth Form Centre. The sixth form team will be available to enrol students onto the courses in our sixth form college and other members of staff will be available to provide further advice and guidance.

Appeals Process

If a student believes an error has been made with regards the GCSE grade awarded there is an appeals process. JCQ published further detailed guidance on the appeals process this week. We will be following this. In the first instance you need to appeal to the school (centre). I will be available on results day to make an appointment to discuss any concerns, queries or appeals with regards grades.  Further guidance about the timeline and stages of the appeals process can be found at

Sixth Form Induction Week Tuesday 22nd June – 25th June 2021

We are looking forward to students joining us for the induction week to start their post-16 courses. Students should arrive at the sixth form centre for 8.40am on Tuesday 22nd June. Students who are considering the sixth form but have not applied are more than welcome to join us for the week, please can they contact Mrs Hubartt to discuss the courses they would like to take lessons in

Independent Learning

Students still have access to all the online learning portals, Tassomai, GCSE Pod etc. should they wish to continue their independent learning. Their log in will work until the end of the academic year.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for all your support over the years, on a personal note I have greatly enjoyed working with year 11 this year and wish them all every success for the future.

Yours sincerely,

Dawn Penberthy
