Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this finds you well. I must say it has been lovely to see a bit more normality in school with students moving around the site and benefitting from being able to access the whole school. It has also been great to see some of the clubs re-starting this week (see below for more details). Extra-curricular activities are an essential part of education and I would encourage all students to take advantage as much as possible.

Merit Badges

It has been a huge pleasure this week to have given out the long-awaited merit badges. Never before have we seen so many students achieve so many merits as we have this year. So much so, we have had to order another batch of badges! I hope students will wear them with pride on their blazers. If your son/daughter has returned home with a badge (or two), please do praise them for their achievement and encourage them to wear them daily.

As you will have heard, the government has stipulated there is no longer the need for students and staff to wear masks in class or around school from Monday 17th May. Although it won't be compulsory, I encourage students to wear masks, especially in corridors when moving around the school.  For those who choose not to, please be aware that should the local infection rates rise, we may have to re-introduce the compulsory wearing of masks. Please note that students travelling on school and public transport must continue to wear masks whilst on board.

Covid Testing

It is really important that students continue to complete their LFD tests twice a week. We will continue to supply students with tests and will keep sending our reminders via text on Thursdays and Sundays. Many thanks for your support with this.

Hopefully, you will have heard about, or even seen, the programme of PE Clubs that started this week;  if not, please click on this link for more information: (all clubs run from 3.15 - 4.15). We are hoping for more clubs to begin in the near future once the GCSE and A Level grading process are completed.

Year 11 and 13

Students began their final internal assessments this week and may I take this opportunity to say how impressed I have been with their overall attitude towards the whole grading process. Teachers have been working really hard to ensure all students have the evidence they need to be able to award them with the grades they deserve. We wish them all the very best during their last couple of weeks with us. For your awareness, Ofqual released a useful summary of the process this week which can be found here: Student guide to awarding: summer 2021 (

Sixth Form Induction

We have a great induction programme lined up for the Year 11 students returning to our outstanding sixth form in September. Induction takes place from 22nd June to 25th June. Any queries should be directed to Mrs Hubartt.

Challenge Week

As you know, we had to cancel Challenge Week this year as we weren't sure whether we would be able to run our usual programme due to the pandemic. However, I am in talks with several colleagues about the possibility of running some activity days in the penultimate week of term (w/c 12th July) to give students the chance to develop their cultural capital and have some fun at the end of what has been a tough year for them. I hope to up-date you about this as soon as possible.

Many thanks for your on-going support.
