Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope this finds you well and that you enjoyed a lovely Easter. I have a couple of updates for you in preparation for our return on Monday - I'd be grateful if you could share these with your son/daughter.

Staffing Update

We said farewell to Mr Trudgett and Ms Inger at the end of term, so now we welcome Ms Browning and Ms Bodkin to our science department. Ms Browning, you may well remember, left us last Easter to go travelling, but for obvious reasons wasn't able to fulfil her plans. We are delighted she is able to re-join us. Ms Bodkin joins us as a chemistry specialist from a very high performing school and will be a real asset to the team. Mr Broad (former Liskeard student) has been appointed as our new Head of Science, but won't be starting until September. In the meantime, Mr Inger is stepping up as Acting Head of Science for the remainder of the academic year.

Please can I take this opportunity to publicly thank our staff in advance of the deadline for submitting this year's GCSE and A Level grades to the exam boards. The next six weeks will be very busy for teachers as they take on the additional role of being examiners. Not only do they need to set assessments, but they also need to mark them, moderate them, then analyse all the evidence they have on each student to determine their final grades. This is a huge undertaking and will require a significant amount of collaboration with colleagues here and in other schools to ensure every student is treated fairly.

Masks and Testing

The government has continued with its guidance with regards to the wearing of face masks in classrooms until the next review on 17th May. This means students will continue to wear masks during lessons as well as in communal areas such as corridors and in the halls.

Please continue to ensure your child completes their CV19 test on Thursday and Sunday evenings. You only need to let us know if the test is positive. If you have any queries or concerns, please contact us via

Uniform and Equipment

Please can I ask that all students have the right uniform and equipment ready for their return. Students wearing inappropriate clothing, such as tight clingy skirts, may be kept out of lessons until the uniform is corrected. Jewellery (except for one simple stud earring in each earlobe) and other non-uniform items will be confiscated.

Extra-curricular Activities

We are very hopeful that with the low rates of infection and the increased numbers of people in the community vaccinated, we will be able to relax some of our Covid restrictions very soon. This will mean that some of our extra-curricular clubs and events may be able to return at some point during this term. We will let you know when we get the authorisation to go ahead.

End of Year Exams

In the latter half of this term, once Year 11 and 13 students have finished, we will be holding end of year exams for each year group to help us assess their progress in a number of subjects. Due to the disruption caused by the lockdowns, the dates of these have changed from our original calendar and more details about these exams will follow shortly.

End of Year Rewards

Congratulations to the students who received prizes as part of the Easter Prize Draw. We will again be rewarding students for positive attitudes, behaviour and effort at the end of this term. If we're allowed, we also hope to hold our annual prestigious Awards' Evening before the summer holiday to recognise those students who have been exceptional in a particular subject or for their outstanding contribution to the school or community.

Cultural Capital

Whilst we won't be able to run Challenge Week this year as we have previously, we will be looking at various options and possibilities to what we can do for students as we approach the summer holiday to help develop their 'cultural capital'. Please also encourage your son/daughter to take up one of the Cultural Capital Award Challenges whenever they can:

Once again, may I thank you for your support. We are very much looking forward to welcoming the students back again so we can educate, inspire and further develop their courage, resilience and kindness.
