Dear Parents/Carers,

Team Liskeard

What a strange and, at times, difficult term. In the last three months we have navigated our way through Lockdown 3, with teachers and students learning how to use Microsoft Teams; we've welcomed students back into school through our re-connect meetings; we've been re-establishing our routines and expectations and re-building students' confidence; students have learnt how to test themselves for Covid; teachers have been working out how to ensure the grades to be awarded for GCSEs and A Levels will be fair for all; we've held virtual parents' evenings, and, of course, we have been continuing to promote and recognise courage, resilience and kindness whenever we can.

During these months, the students have been wonderful - they have been a credit to you and a credit to the school. Our attendance is the best it has been all year; we have given out more merits than ever before; we've raised over £1000 for Comic Relief and we've been developing students' communication skills through our oracy programme.

Please can I express my thanks to you as parents and carers for your support, especially during the period of remote learning. We've received overwhelmingly positive feedback from many of you, which has been hugely appreciated by all the staff in school. Team Liskeard is alive and strong, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 19th April, after a well-deserved break.

Unfortunately, not returning after Easter are Mrs Inger (Head of Science) and Mr Trudgett (Science teacher). After almost 30 years of teaching, Mr Trudgett is hanging up his teaching boots and taking to the waves to enjoy his retirement. Mrs Inger has secured promotion at Callington Community College, joining their senior team as Assistant Headteacher. We will be very sad to see them go and thank them both for their incredible work throughout their time with us.

Please can I ask that you read the following reminders and updates:

Covid Testing

Students should continue to test for CV19 twice a week over the holidays using the lateral flow device tests issued today. In the case of a positive test, please arrange for a PCR test and let us know the outcome via

Uniform and Equipment

Please can you make sure students come fully prepared for school in correct uniform and with a full set of equipment. The biggest uniform issues we have are a small number of students wearing the wrong skirts or trousers, and several students wearing jewellery. The only way to address this effectively is to confiscate jewellery and to isolate students in the wrong uniform until it is corrected. I'd be grateful if you could discuss this with your son/daughter so that they are fully aware before they return. If you have difficulties obtaining an item of uniform of equipment, please email your child's Head of Year before we return to school.

PE Socks

Based on student voice feedback, as a trial this summer term, the PE Faculty will be allowing students to wear white sports socks in place of their blue long PE socks if they wish to do so. Students can continue to wear the blue long socks if they would prefer. The sports socks must be white with minimal branding. There is to be no colour on the socks (other than the brand logo) and must be plain (i.e. no frills or ruffles.) The sports socks must be visible about the trainer line to avoid rubbing of skin or blisters. Students still require the blue PE socks for the autumn and spring terms and will be asked to wear blue socks when representing the school at events (including summer events). Please also ensure that your son/daughter is bringing a change of socks with them on PE days for hygiene reasons.

Information for Y11 and Y13

Communication about the process for awarding grades this summer went out to parents and carers of students in Y11 and Y13 earlier this week. In addition, subject specific information for Y11 is being sent out today. If you have a child in Y11, please can you go through this with them. As numbers in Y13 are much smaller, teachers of Y13 students will be talking to them directly about what is required for their subjects.

Year 7 Parents' Evening

We will hold our parents' evening for Y7 online using video appointments. Information about how to make appointments and how to access them will be sent out shortly. The evening is scheduled for Wednesday 28th April, 3.45pm - 6.45pm.

Re-arranged INSET Day

Due to the Lockdown we had to re-arrange an INSET day originally planned for January. The new date for this is Monday 21st June. All staff will be receiving training from an educational psychologist and from the Government's student behaviour expert, Tom Bennett.

Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy Easter.
