Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been so amazing to see the students back in school. We have had excellent attendance and the feeling around school has been overwhelmingly positive.

Talking of positivity, we have been 'praising the positive' as much as we can to help re-build students' confidence and engagement. We have never before issued so many merits and awarded so many certificates. If your child has received merits or any certificates, please do congratulate them for their efforts.

Comic Relief

To help bring a smile to everyone's faces we will be celebrating Red Nose Day tomorrow encouraging students to wear non-uniform and donate £1 to Comic Relief. We have been choosing our favourite jokes this week and I will be announcing tomorrow morning which tutor group is the funniest. This will be followed by my feeble attempt to tell 50 jokes in 5 minutes and there will also be the opportunity for students to buy cakes and pay to throw sponges at teachers!

Easter Prize Draw

In two weeks', time, we will be holding an Easter Prize Draw. The better behaviour, attitudes and attendance students have, the more chance they have to win a prize. One of the prizes is the Stand-Up Paddle Board that has been on display in school for the last year! If any parents would like to donate any prizes, we would be delighted to include them in the draw.

Y8 & Y11 Parents' Evenings

I apologise again to parents of Year 11 students for the cancellation of parents' evening last night. This was due to a technical issue preventing staff in school to connect to the system. The engineers are assessing the situation today and tomorrow to confirm if this can be fixed in time for the scheduled Y8 parents' evening next week. If it can, we will confirm a new date for the Y11 parents' evening as soon as possible. If not, we will need to postpone the Y8 parents' evening also and come up with an alternative plan. We will update you as soon as we know more.

Year 11 and Year 13 Grades

We are still waiting on the final guidance from Ofqual and the DfE with regards to awarding grades this summer. In the meantime, we have been looking at what evidence we already have and what evidence we still require to be able to award grades in each subject. Once we have a definitive answer, we will let you know. I apologise for the delay in communicating this to you - as well as it being a huge undertaking, it has been frustrating not yet knowing the full details from the exam boards.

Please can I remind parents to make appointments where possible before coming into school. Due to our daily commitments we can never guarantee the relevant staff will be available without notice. Only essential visits are permitted during the current restrictions.

Please remember that jewellery (except one pair of small stud earrings) and hoodies are not permitted in school. We will be confiscating such items if seen in school from next week.

Once again, may I thank you for your ongoing support. It has been lovely to receive such positive comments from many of you about how well the return to school has gone.

Best wishes,

Alex Lingard
