As part of Plymouth University’s Widening Participation Programme to encourage students who would not usually consider Higher Education, an experience of what university has to offer was provided at a day to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The students in attendance were from Year 12 and 13.

For those studying Business Studies and Economics there were lectures from visiting professors from China on logistics and trading opportunities with China as the world’s fastest growing economy.  For those in Year 13 this was particularly beneficial as the pre-release research theme is based on China and emerging markets.  For the non Business and Economics students, there were also workshops in Mandarin and the historical, cultural and social dynamics of China.

A Chinese lunch was provided and in a huge purpose built marquee students were able to participate in a range of activities, including tea tasting, Tai Chi, head massage and Chinese lantern painting.  A fantastic day out was experienced by all and a 恭喜发财"gong hei fat choi" = Happy Chinese New Year!
