In December Sixth Form students were taken to Dairy Crest, Davidstow. The students received advice and guidance on careers in the food industry ranging from Marketing, Engineering and Food Technology. After the lecture we had a tour of the facilities.

It was useful for those considering a career in this area, but also importantly provides the opportunity for students to see Operation Management in action.

The Davidstow Creamery has been making cheddar for sixty years. Built on what was once a wartime aerodrome, it sits in rich dairy country. Over 400 local farmers supply the milk needed to give the award-winning Cheddar its distinctive creamy character.Davidstow operate 117 employees - 69 production, 24 engineers, 5 Quality Assurance, 4 administration and 15 management grade.

The morning aimed to give local students and graduates an insight into the food and agricultural industry; see how the business operates and some inside experience of it. Attendees were given a tour of the site followed by an overview of career opportunities and advice on CVs or approaching work opportunities in the sector and at Dairy Crest.
