Our pastoral support team ensure that students thrive and are well looked after in school.

Students are placed in a tutor group led by a dedicated tutor who meets each day with the students. They follow a programme of Personal, Social, Citizenship, and Health Education (PSCHE); Newswatch; assemblies; and academic mentoring.

The tutors are led by a Head of Year and a non- teaching Assistant Head of Year who is the first port of call for students and parents when the tutors are teaching. The Assistant Head of Year works closely with the Head of Year in monitoring the achievement, engagement, behaviour and attendance of the students in the year group. In addition each year group is supported by 'Success Mentors' who provide individual support for students who may have fallen behind and need extra help to catch up.

Our attendance officer monitors students’ attendance and punctuality. For safeguarding reasons, we ask that a child’s absence is reported on the day of absence. The school insists on high level of attendance as it promotes higher achievement. We celebrate good attendance and follow up poor attendance rigorously.

Other pastoral support is provided through the Learning Support Team as well as through TicTac (Teenage Information, Advice and Guidance Centre) located in the bungalow at the front of school; the youth service; the school’s chaplaincy team; Careers South West; and other specific intervention through links to specialist services.

Our students also offer support to each other: for example through the Peer Mentors team and the Sixth Form mentors.
