Liskeard School and Community College is a co-operative trust school and is part of the Liskeard Community Co-operative Learning Trust. Our partners in the Trust are Dobwalls, Menheniot and Trewidland primary schools; University of St Mark and St John; UTC Aerospace; the Co-op Retail Group SW and Cornwall Council. Our membership is made up of students, staff, parents and community members and each of these has a voice in the work of the trust.

We have agreed to work together based on the co-operative values and principles:

  • Self help
  • Self responsibility
  • Equity
  • Equality
  • Democracy
  • Solidarity

and

  • Openness
  • Honesty
  • Care for Others

Our aims are quite straightforward. We want to improve the life chances and to raise the aspiration and achievement of every child in our community. We have a number of ways of doing this, for example: providing curriculum enrichment opportunities for children; staff training; shared resources and procurement to gain better value from our budgets; and being responsive to the needs and aspirations of our membership.

A lot has been achieved in the first 18 months of the trust:

  • Co-op Curriculum Day
  • Fairtrade Video Conferencing (Co-op SW)
  • Co-op Fortnight Media Bus (Co-op SW)
  • Engineering project (UTC Aerospace)
  • Year 10 designed outdoor social space
  • Year 9 students perform at International Co-op Conference
  • ‘Teach Meets’ to share best practice and training links with other schools – Lipson; Helston; Torpoint
  • Members of Teaching and Learning Academy via Marjons, accessing funds for development projects in our trust schools
  • SW Cooperative Schools Teaching and Learning Conference hosted at Liskeard
  • Facilities management services

Our priorities for 2013/14 are:

  • Every school will identify priority areas for development in order to become outstanding and share these with the Trust
  • Curriculum Development Projects through Hewitt Driver Fund: New Technologies; Foreign Languages; Independent Learning
  • Coaching programme to support staff in moving to outstanding
  • Develop Action Research case studies
  • Explore co-operative learning approaches in lessons
  • Use teachmeet and video conferencing to share good practice
  • Develop HE programmes to raise student aspiration
  • Develop curricular projects with UTC Aerospace and The Co-operative
  • Develop further procurement of services: e.g. Grounds Maintenance
  • Develop community 3G pitch
  • Creation of central fund through income generation to support work of the Trust
  • Collapsed curriculum days to raise awareness of co-operative models
  • Build membership and develop membership benefits
  • Establish stakeholder groups and trust board representation
  • Develop Cornish Cooperative network
