Dear Parents/Carers

Given the recent events in London and Manchester, I wanted to update you and reassure you on our current plans for the upcoming Business trip.

Since the recent incidents, we have been in contact with and sought advice from Cornwall Council who are responsible for authorising and advising on residential trips. At the moment County guidelines state that extra care, caution and vigilance should be taken and have in a recent meeting approved for all trips to continue to go ahead as planned. As such, at this moment in time, I am still planning to run the trip. We will, of course, keep up to date with the latest information and review the situation if necessary.

I would also like to re-assure you that at no point will students be unsupervised whilst outside and on the streets. This did happen last year in different circumstances and with a different itinerary. However, the itinerary changed for this year and that was not planned this year. Currently, we are planning on spending the evening and having our evening meal in one of the shopping centres. The itinerary allows students to spend their social time in the shopping centre in small groups with a central meet up point. However, this is something that myself, Mrs. Cozens and Mrs. Carlin will be considering and we have already thought of some ideas for this to allow the students to get the most out of this time but at the same time and most importantly be safe. I would also like to consult with parents on this point.

As you will have hopefully seen from the letter sent home via your child on Monday 5th June (which was written before the weekend’s recent incident), I will be holding a short information session on Thursday 6th July at 6pm in G2 to give more details about the trip. In relation to the point above, I would also like to use this session to consult with yourselves on the plan for the social time in the evening. Yours sincerely,
