Alex-Lingard-Head-Teacher

Mr Alex Lingard BSc (Hons)
Head Teacher

As the term draws to a close it is a good time to reflect on what has been achieved and to think ahead about what still needs to be done. On a personal level it's been a wonderful first term as a new Head Teacher. There have been some challenging decisions to make, but far more importantly I have witnessed some fabulous achievements by hundreds of students, both in and out of the classroom. The New Year brings with it some challenging times, especially for our older students having to complete their mock exams.

It's time to showcase ourselves again with our sixth Form Open Evening coming up in two weeks. As you know we are extremely proud of our sixth form, consistently ranked in the top 25% of schools and colleges nationally and a remarkable record of securing students' first choice university places. The sixth form is also a place of opportunity with students enjoying a myriad of experiences to build their confidence, broaden their horizons, give something back to their community and to have fun. Life in the sixth form is very different to that in the main school. Students enjoy greater flexibility and autonomy, but benefit from the intimacy of being in a school environment, the security of knowing their teachers and the personalised support this brings.

We’re currently looking for a new Deputy Head and as part of the selection process I’ve been visiting candidates in their own schools. Not only does this give me an insight to how they interact with the students and staff who know them, it also gives me a chance to have a look around other schools. Without question I have seen some fantastic things on my travels. I’ve visited 3 ‘outstanding’ schools and pinched some ideas from them that we could use at Liskeard. It has also made me realise though that not only do we have great facilities and behaviour here, but what we are doing to try and develop resilience in our students and improve their independence is exactly the right thing to do.

With nearly three weeks of term completed we are well and truly back into the routine of school life! Lots has been happening since we returned: we’ve had several rugby fixtures so far – of particular note was a great win for Year 10 against Penrice and the exceptional performances of Ethan Brenton-Crabb and Ethan Hill in Year 7 playing for our Year 8 team. The U18 Football Academy had their first match, against probably the toughest opposition in the league, winning 2-0 with goals from Callum McGhee and Josh Doney.

Calling All Parents!

Welcome to my new blog!

I have to start by saying what a great school this is. The dedication and expertise of our staff is second to none, the spirit and personalities of our students are just wonderful and the support we have from parents and the local community is exceptional. There is a great feeling in the school; a sense of belonging, pride and co-operation; an understanding that we really will achieve more together.
