Alex-Lingard-Head-Teacher

Mr Alex Lingard BSc (Hons)
Head Teacher

Obviously our main duty as a school is to ensure students are happy and safe from harm. As part of our safeguarding practice we have spent the last 3 weeks during tutor time looking at why and how young people get drawn into extremism and radicalisation. Assemblies, Newswatch and discussion time during PHSCE lessons have been used to give students a better understanding of the issues. All the resources we have used plus some guidance for parents can be found on the school website (Parents/Carers > PHSCE). I strongly recommend you have a look and talk to your son/daughter about the issues that we have discussed.

I am delighted to announce that the school has been awarded the Artsmark Gold Award by the Arts Council, England. This is the highest accolade schools can be given by the Arts Council and we are one of the first schools in the country to receive the new award. The award recognises our commitment to the arts and culture and the opportunities we provide students to create, compose, and perform.

The summer holidays now seem like a distant memory and we are back into the routine of school life. Once again I have to say how impressed I have been with the attitude of students towards their learning. Year 7 have had an exceptional start and Year 11 are focussed and already thinking about their mock exams! It's been wonderful to see so many of last year's Year 11 students return to join the 6th form college and continue their education with us. I know they are going to enjoy their time here and achieve great things.

With only four and half weeks to go we just have too much to fit in before the end of term!  I am particularly excited about our Awards' Evening and celebration assemblies. It is really important we recognise and acknowledge those students who have done exceptionally well throughout the year. As well as recognising academic excellence, we will be celebrating those who have put in remarkable effort and those who have made an outstanding contribution to the school. Details of the Awards' Evening and the criteria for each of the awards can be found on the website under Events.

You may have read in the press since the General Election that there is a national move towards all schools becoming academies. There is also a need for schools to be part of a group of schools, often referred to as Trusts, so that they are in a better position to support each other. As you know, we previously chose not to convert to an academy, but instead set up the Liskeard Community Co-operative Learning Trust along with three of our primary feeder schools.
