Students from Liskeard School and Community College completed the school’s first practice Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition last weekend in glorious Cornish sunshine.

Group 1 Day 1 websiteThe students trekked with heavy rucksacks containing all of their equipment on the coastal path between Polruan and Looe on Saturday 28th April.  It was a challenging day with an undulating path and some steep climbs, especially for young people who had never walked with heavy packs before.  They then camped for the night before heading north towards Liskeard, completing 25km in total.

All of the students completed the weekend successfully and, despite the odd navigational challenge and blister, enjoyed the weekend.  We would like to thank generous staff at West Wayland Campsite, who support the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.  They were so impressed by the students’ manners and behaviour that they waived payment!

We look forward to the next group of students completing their practice expedition in a fortnight's time.

Tom Young, Year 10 student, said: “I knew it would be hard, but I have surprised myself and I have really enjoyed it!”

Dr. Sarah Eastburn, Expedition Leader, said: “I am really proud of our students. They put all of the training into practice and I was particularly pleased by the way they looked after each other and their resilience throughout the weekend.”
