Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you and your family are well. There are a few things I need to update you about - I've tried to keep them as brief as possible as I know how busy everyone is during these unusual times.

Home Learning

Thank you for your support in helping students keep up with their home learning tasks. We are receiving lots of positive feedback, but we also recognise that not all students are as motivated as others. I know this can be very frustrating and difficult for parents. I'll be asking teachers to report back to me which students are not completing work and we will arrange to speak to those students next week. If there are genuine concerns about not being able to access the work, then please let us know.

Emotional Health and Well-being

We have put a number of resources on the website to help support students' well-being and mental health. Please have a look or get in touch if you need support. Remember there is the online form I Need to Talk should students wish to contact someone. Alternatively, they can email their tutor or Head of Year.

Having a routine is really important in these times, so having a timetable for home learning can really help. We put some example timetables on the website at the start of the lockdown, should you need some guidance.

FSM Vouchers

There has been significant issues with the Government's free school meal voucher scheme, so after trying for some time to organise these for our parents, we have reverted to providing the Aldi food vouchers as we were before. These should be with you very soon. Apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.

GCSE, BTEC and A Level Results

After initially saying that results will be available at some point in July, Ofqual have announced that this year's results will be released on the original results days in August (13th and 20th August).

Following their announcement about how grades will be decided, Ofqual have opened a consultation with schools to get feedback on the proposal. This consultation ends next Wednesday. Once we hear any more, we will, of course, update you.

Rainbow Messages and Captain Tom

We received over 120 Rainbow Messages from students to send to critically ill patients at Derriford Hospital. I've been in touch with one of their senior nurses, who is delighted with the kindness shown by our students. Thank you to all the students who made the effort to send in a message.

After the amazing achievements of Captain Tom, I've asked students to send him a virtual birthday card (by 30th April) to say thank you and celebrate his 100th birthday. Students just need to post a picture of their card on social media using the hashtag #makeacardfortom

Free Offer from Pipewell Studios

Dean Moore, from Pipewell Studios in Liskeard, has made a very kind offer to all of our students giving them the opportunity to broadcast over the radio. Dean will provide all training online. Students just need access to a smart phone and a computer. Details have been emailed to students.

Face Visors

With the ongoing concerns about a lack of PPE for frontline workers, our fantastic Technology team have been busy at work making face visors for local services. So far we have provided over 200 visors for:

Liskeard District Nurses, Callington District Nurses, Beech Lawn Nursing Home, Tavistock Hospital, Eventide Home, Coombes House, Kilmar House, Pengover House, Kernow House Care Centre, Liskeard Ambulance Station, Morley Tamlyn Lodge. ‚Äč
We have orders in the pipeline for Liskeard Community Hospital, Coventry Hospital (as featured on Panorama‚Äč on Monday), a local solicitors and another local care home.

Return to School

There has been much talk about when schools will re-open. As the Government announced last week, there is still no set date and the decision will be determined by the science. Whilst we continue to be in lockdown, we thought it wise to look at other countries, such as Denmark, who opened their schools recently to see how they have managed the process. Minimising risk to students and staff will obviously be the priority. Once we learn more about the situation, we will update you with the necessary details, but whenever it is, it will require significant planning.

Best wishes,

Alex Lingard
